Pearce confirms Reds ‘closing in’ on first signing on summer
It’s not the marquee deal most Liverpool fans are after, but it shows how the club is constantly looking to improve across all areas.
A deal for Polish 16-year-old Jakub Ojrzynski is imminent, after the club beat Manchester United to the youngster’s signature, according to James Pearce of the Echo.
The report says we’ll spend £200k on the teenager who currently plies his trade in his homeland for Legia Warsaw, having beaten United, Valencia and Juventus to his services.
It seems Liverpool have a penchant for Polish stoppers, with Kamil Grabara already on the books!
He’s spent half of this campaign on loan at Danish outfit AGF Aarhus – and enjoyed a decent spell – despite enduring a nightmare outing v Vejle BK.
Ojrzynski will join the U18s originally and compete with Vitezslav Jaros for a starting spot.
He’ll have some difficulty in ousting the Czech, who was superb as Liverpool won the FA Youth Cup a few weeks back.
Still, competition for places in the Academy is a very good thing and will push our prodigies to improve.
Ojrzynski might not be the only keeper to arrive this summer. If Simon Mignolet departs, we’ll need a new reserve for Alisson – but that depends on if the Belgian wants away or not.
