Transfer news: Liverpool deal confirmed for international forward

Liverpool are making their first business of the summer transfer window to extend the contract for Divock Origi at the club as they offer him an extension.

There will surely be coming and goings at Liverpool in this transfer window, but one player who is set to stay is Champions League hero Divock Origi.

The Belgian forward is set to extend his current deal at Anfield after the club have moved to reward him for his contributions to the squad this season.

The Independent are reporting he will get an extra 12 months on his current deal which was due to expire next summer. The club have been hugely impressed with his fitness, work ethic and quality to fill in for the other forwards when they are injured or rested.

While he has only six goals this season, they have been crucial to Liverpool’s quest for trophies. The 96th minute derby winner was an instant meme and early highlight of the season.

This week has seen him score the winner against Newcastle to keep the dreams of a Premier League title alive and a brace in the Champions League win over Barcelona.

He opened the scoring in the sixth minute but it was his second goal, late in the second half, that gave the Reds the advantage in the tie and sent them through to the final with a historic comeback.

There is also talk of a new deal for Jurgen Klopp even though he contracted until 2022. The rumors say it would be a five-year extension taking him to over a decade at the club.
